Wanted to let you all know that the Doo Dah Diner at Kellogg and Market is having a fundraiser for Camp Hope on Saturday, April 19 - all you have to do is eat there and they are donating a percentage of their profits to camp. They are open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and if you haven't been there, this would be a great time to try it as they have very delicious food. Feel free to pass this on to others. 2013 was the last year that the American Cancer Society decided to fund camps for kids on a national level, so we have been raising money and requesting grants to keep camp going.
Beginning Wed, April 16, Doo Dah will be selling tickets for a drawing for a pan of their monkey bread - all the proceeds from that go to camp hope. Tickets are $3 or two/$5. The monkey bread is something that is served with their meals and it is very, very good!! Tickets can be purchased at Doo Dah.
And in case you haven't heard, the facility that we have Camp Hope at, Camp Aldrich, had a fire this morning destroying the dining, multipurpose room. The committee (of which I am a part) is trying to find another place to have camp this year as we will not be able to use aldrich now. Our hope is to find a place close to Great Bend because we receive amazing support from this community, and have it the same week that it is currently scheduled. If that's not possible, we are looking at other options. We had a bunch of kitchen, medical, activities, and cabin supplies in the basement of the dining hall and are not sure, but believe we may have lost most if not all of those, probably from smoke/water damage. Anyway, keep camp in your prayers that we will secure a facility/location and get the needed supplies so we can have camp this year. I have volunteered at Camp Hope since 2001 and it is always an amazing week, seeing kids smile and have fun who have to face treatments and other obstacles the rest of the year. The worst day is the last day as kids are crying because they don't want to leave and can't wait to come back next year.
Hope to see you at Doo Dah on the 19th! Thanks!!
