Wichita Public Schools - McKinney-Vento Program

Wichita Public Schools

The McKinney-Vento program promotes school stability and academic success to help students overcome obstacles and barriers to an education, specifically families in transition due to homelessness.

The McKinney-Vento Program provides services for families to help overcome the obstacles and barriers so that their children and youth can be successful in school. If you or you know of anyone who is temporarily living in any of the following situations due to economic hardship, eviction or loss of housing, they may qualify for our services. These families do not have a regular night time residence of their own.

Families are temporarily:

  • doubled up living with a friend or relative
  • staying in a motel or hotel
  • living in an emergency, transitional or domestic violence shelter
  • living in a car, public place, abandoned building or campground

Last year the Wichita school district served over 2,000 students. As the holiday season approches, they are excited to continue their tradition of bringing joy to students and families in need through their annual gift giving program. Each year, they provide essential items such as book bags, school supplies, hygiene products, uniforms, socks, underwear, and coats to students who qualify. This year we are seeking your support to make the holidays even brighter for these children!
