Mark your calendars for Sept. 8 and 9 for the 7th Annual Derby BBQ Festival presented by Security 1st Title. The two-day event will be held at High Park, 2801 E. James. This is a free event open to the entire family.

September 8: BBQ Kick-off: Join us Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. for the BBQ kick-off, which includes the new Kid's Q event, Derby Police vs. Derby Fire hot dog eating contest, live music by Morrison County (a Derby-based country band), food trucks, and adult beverages. The Kid's Q will feature two age categories for kids 15 and under who will cook hamburger and chicken on a charcoal grill (limited number of entries). Winners receive cash prizes and ribbons for first, second and third place in both age categories.

Friday Parking: On-site parking available on Friday night only. Enter the park on James St.

September 9: On Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Derby BBQ Festival will feature the KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) Cook-off, Fidelity Bank Backyard BBQ Cook-off, Verus Bank and Creekstone Farms People's Choice Contest, Rods-N-Ribs Charity Car Show, food trucks, Derby Noon Lions Club Beer Garden, and live music by Last Great Summer (alternative rock) and Haven Alexandra (country/folk). Kids can enjoy the El Paso Animal Clinic Petting Zoo, Inflatables, magician, face painters, Princess Pros Entertainment and more.

New in 2017 is the BRG Precision Products Anything on a Stick Contest (dessert and non-dessert categories) held on Sept. 9. This contest is open to the public. Winners receive cash prizes and ribbons for first, second and third place.

Saturday Parking: Due to construction on Madison Ave., on-site parking on Sept. 9 will not be available unless you are a volunteer, judge, vendor or need ADA parking. Attendees are asked to park at the Rock River Rapids/Derby High School parking lots and ride a shuttle to the park.

Proceeds from this event benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center.
