The Wichita Grand Opera will present Georges Bizet’s masterpiece, Carmen,on Saturday, April 27th at 7:00 PM in Century II’s Concert Hall. The performance will be sung in the original French (with surtitles) and will feature English spoken dialogue. This masterful tragedy is replete with some of opera’s most loved music including the exciting “Carmen Overture,” the sultry “Habañera,” and the audience favorite, “Toreador Song.”

Set in 19th-Century Spain, Carmen is a timeless story of tragic love, passion, and betrayal. The beguiling and seductive gypsy, Carmen, attracts the love of the young corporal, Don José, who deserts his post to join Carmen and her band of smugglers. Carmen soon tires of Don José’s obsessive affection and turns her passion towards the bullfighter, Escamillo. Filled with jealousy, Don José follows her to Seville where he confronts her outside the bull fighting arena where the opera meets to its tragic conclusion. Click here to learn more...
