Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari is opening up about the impact his marriage to the pop icon had on his acting career.
In a recent radio interview, the 31-year-old model and actor reflected on how his career was affected by his romance with the "Toxic" singer, noting that there were both positive and negative impacts throughout their relationship, per People.
"I can't sit here and lie and say, 'It wasn't good for me,'" he said. "When you're in such a public relationship ... it sort of gave me that platform for who I am."
Spears and Asghari "met as co-workers" in a professional capacity when he starred in the 2016 music video for her song "Slumber Party." He explained that while the publicity of their romance allowed more opportunities to further his acting career, some agents only saw him as Spears' boyfriend, and later husband, rather than the talent he could bring to new projects and that he had to "work harder to prove myself." Even his time working as a fitness trainer seemed too "cheesy" for some.
"'Oh, and he's associated with a pop star, which is also cheesy as well,'" he recalled. "Or 'can we see him as a character?' There was that line as well."
Spears and Asghari got married in June 2022, but he filed for divorce in August 2023. When the process was finalized last year, the "Stronger" hitmaker was said to be "continuing to turn the page" in her new chapter.
