Dogs Rescued From Flooded Kennels After Hurricane Irma

Sometimes when people evacuate for a hurricane, they leave their pets behind. It’s dangerous and even deadly for the animals, but some dogs stuck outside in Lakeland, Florida during Hurricane Irma were fortunate enough to be saved after the storm.

Animal control officers and neighbors freed four dogs in a kennel flooded with water up to their chests and rescued another stuck on a picnic table. The homeowner evacuated days earlier and left the animals at home to fend for themselves.

Normally, the animal control officers say they have to wait 24 hours before rescuing the animals. But with more rain on the way, they didn’t know if the dogs would make it, so they got them out safely while they could.
