Could Meryl Streep Replace Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia?

Over 10-thousand fans have signed a petition calling for Disney and Lucasfilm to recast the role of Princess Leia of the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode IX.” Carrie Fisher – who died in December 2016 – played the iconic role. Now that she’s gone, they want Meryl Streep to do the honors.

One person who’s not on-board is Mark Hamill. He recently told Collider that he didn’t know what the plans were for the character, but recasting would be tough to recast it because Carrie is “so indelibly linked to that character...She’s irreplaceable as far as I’m concerned.”

For the record, Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm has gone on record saying that “Last Jedi” would be Fisher’s last “Star Wars” film, meaning no CGI or repurposed material in following installments.
