For almost 100 years, the brick building at the corner of 61st Street North and Oliver has been an icon of Kechi. For the past 36 of those years, the building has been home to The Kechi Playhouse, a community theater that brings light and joy to everyone who steps foot inside. I've had the pleasure of performing at the playhouse myself, and it is a live experience unlike any other for both the actors and the audience!
Now, Kechi needs us to bring a little joy to the theater.
Time has taken its toll on the historic building. Everything from the roof to the foundation needs repair. The good news: the city of Kechi has found a grant that will give up to $250,000 to rehabilitate it. The catch: they've got to raise a little bit of cash first.
If the playhouse can match 25% of the funds, then the full amount of the grant will be awarded. That's $83,333 in cold hard cash that the playhouse needs in donations to get the $250,000 they need to save the building.
If you love theatre, the arts, old buildings, or just love to support local... you can donate to their YouCaring website. The campaign will run through the end of June.
