Forget knocking around on that watermelon! Leave those perfect, blemish-free melons in the box! The best watermelon may be the ugliest one!
Mak-Migro Farms revealed the secret behind finding the perfect watermelon. Here's what to look for:
1) Those gnarly, dark veins on the rind? The more, the merrier! That shows that the melon has been highly pollinated and will be sweeter.
2) Look for a dark "field spot"- that's the light spot where the melon has been resting on the ground. You want yours to be more yellow/orange than white.
3) Skip knocking around on it to find out of it's ripe or not (what are we even listening for anyway?). Instead, look at the stem. If it's brown and dry, you know it's at its peak! If it's green, leave it.
4) Like a sweet melon? Look for a round, or "female", shape. Like them a little more watery? Look for a long, or "male", shape.
