Things To Do This Weekend In Doo-Dah

We're just days away from Christmas.  There will be lots of shopping and driving from store to store.  Here's a list of other things you can do this weekend, courtesy of  Visit Wichita


 

THE ARC'S LIGHTS (THROUGH DECEMBER 28)

Time: Times vary Admission: $10 per carload on Fridays & Saturdays (Donations accepted every night)

Location: : Douglas at St. Paul

Experience more than a million lights at The Arc's Lights. This wonderful display of lights and decorations takes from place from Thanksgiving night through December 28th. It's a benefit for the Arc of Sedgwick County.


CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAYS (THROUGH DECEMBER 31)

The holiday season is upon us! Stop by any of the community Christmas light displays beginning on Thanksgiving Day and lasting through the end of the year. Check out The Marshall Family Christmas Lights, Lights on Longview, 9th Street Lights, Lights on the River, Lights on Gold Street, Lights on Texas and many, many more for free as you drive through Wichita. For a birds eye view of the Christmas cheer, opt for a DWTA Helicopters Holiday Lights Tour starting at $250.

 

ILLUMINATIONS (THROUGH DECEMBER 31)

Time: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Admission: $7 Members; $10 Non-Members

Location: Botanica Wichita, 701 N. Amidon, Wichita, KS 67203

Enter a true winter wonderland with more than 1 million dazzling lights strung about trees and plant life in more than 30 gardens at Botanica Wichita. This family tradition will leave you mesmerized as you discover giant bugs, fish and flowers adorned with a rainbow of color, or find yourself walking down Candy Cane Lane. Don’t miss the choreographed show with more than 50,000 lights set to Christmas music. Kids can also meet Santa.


FIST OF FURRY REINDEER OR ANGRY SANTA CLAWS

This hysterical romp through the worlds of the Old West and action-packed martial arts films will have you and the whole family rolling with laughter. Written and directed by Tom Frye, “Fist of Furry Reindeer or Angry Santa Claws” is rated PG-13 for some innuendo. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. and be catered by Pig In Pig Out Barbeque. Don’t miss the “Dig That Crazy Christmas” Musical Comedy Revue after intermission.

With his own unique brand of generational comedy, Mike Speenberg strolls into Wichita with a unique bit that has had crowds roaring all over the country. Speenberg has shared the stage with comic greats like Bob Saget, Dave Attell and Mitch Hedberg, and prides himself on his hilarious stories of home and family, love of country and being drunk in public.

Ballet Wichita celebrates its 44th season with the premiere of an all-new “The Nutcracker” performance directed and choreographed by Sean McLeod. This holiday family favorite is based on the 1816 book by E.T.A. Hoffman, and is adapted by McLeod, who has created an exciting first act and soul-stirring second act.

 

WICHITA STATE VS. OKLAHOMA

Cheer for the hometown team as the Wichita State Shockers take on the University of Oklahoma’s Boomer Sooners at INTRUST Bank Arena. Get up-close-and-personal with the teams by sitting courtside starting at $102 a ticket. The Shockers have played a game at INTRUST Bank Arena each year since 2010, and have sold out each of the last three contests against Oklahoma State, Utah and St. Louis.

 

OLD TOWN FARMER’S MARKET – WINTER MARKET

Visitors can find locally-grown and raised products throughout the winter months at the Old Town Farmer’s Market in downtown Wichita. With access to fresh veggies, meat and poultry as well as handmade artisan goods and prepared food vendors, the market offers something for everyone. Visitors can find breakfast and brunch options or enjoy cocktails during this indoor market that happens every Saturday through April 15, 2018.
